Sanctioned by the United Kennel Club

Updated 2-14-2006

The United Leonberger Association was formed to represent the Leonberger dogs within the United Kennel Club. For a number of years the Leonberger has been a recognized UKC breed, eligible for full registration privileges and participation in UKC sanctioned events. All this without a guiding parent organization.

Early in 2004 several Leonberger enthusiasts felt it was time our breed had a voice in UKC matters. By forming the ULA, we can assume an active role in educating the UKC licensed judges and the public about our magnificent dogs. Appreciating the Leonberger breed standard as it relates to each dog is one of the tasks before us.

As a breed club, we encourage other Leonberger owners to register their dogs with the UKC and to participate in UKC events open to Leonbergers. We will encourage all UKC multi-breed clubs to add the Leonberger to their list of eligible breeds at their shows.

We want to be a social outlet for Leonberger owners and to host our own specialty shows for UKC registered Leons. Yes, Leons. That is the abbreviated designation for our dogs within the UKC. It is our sincere hope that Leon owners across the United States will join us and become active in sharing knowledge of the breed and promoting the exhibition of Leons at UKC events.

Membership information is available on-line. Questions may be directed to ULA President Julie Hatlas-Pepper at info@unitedleonberger.com or by contacting any one of the ULA officers.
