Code of Ethics

This Code of Ethics is presented as a guide to all members of the UNITED LEONBERGER ASSOCIATION and states the minimum requirements and practices to be maintained by all members of this organization.

As a member of the UNITED LEONBERGER ASSOCIATION, I will:

1. agree to follow all rules and regulations set forth by the UNITED KENNEL CLUB as they pertain to my purebred dog breed.

2. agree to abide by and uphold the principles of the constitution and by laws and the code of ethics put forth by the ULA.

3. furnish a health certificate and any and all registration certificates or puppy registration papers. All LEONBERGER’S sold with a written contract.

4. maintain a health standard and care of my dogs and see that all puppies are immunized and checked for parasites.

5. NEVER SELL DOGS TO A WHOLESALER, PET STORE, PUPPY MILL, PET BROKER, RAFFLE, OR ANY EXPLORTATION OF THE BREED nor knowingly sell to someone that would.

6. adhere to ethical breeding practices, always striving to achieve the maximum ideal of the breed. We strongly recommend passing OFA hips & Elbows, Eye Cerf & Thyroid testing.

7. encourage spay/neuter of all pet/companion LEONBERGER’S with a contract stating the requirements be met.

8. try at all times to show good sportsmanship and remember that the promoting of the breed is most important.

9. refrain from deceptive advertising.

10. not falsify any records, pedigrees, registrations and if found to have knowingly falsified, I will have my membership privileges revoked.

11. consider registering all Leonbergers with a kennel name at the beginning of the registered name. (We strongly recommend that the kennel name not be changed, as this is a guiding link to the origin of the breeder.)
